| Angela
Peake began fundraising by collecting outside a local Penzance supermarket and
selling plants, books and bric-a-brac at carboot sales. This
is continuing, with the help of a few other people. This
progressed to sponsored swims and a sponsored walk, and toy sales raised some
money. £3,000 was raised in 2004 through various activities in local schools,
and contributions were received from Cornish churches and chapels.
We
raised £18,748 in the financial year 2005-2006 and £19,508
in 2006-2007.
2007-2008 was an exceptional year and fundraising was £40,017.
Another £29,395 was raised in 2008-2009.

2010
Fundraiser on
Dartmoor
|
ACE supporter,
Tanya Jewell, organised a Charity Fundraiser over the August Bank
Holiday weekend in the small village of Ponsworthy on Dartmoor.
The proceeds
were divided between ACE, Shelterbox and Leusdon Church, and Tanya
has sent ACE a cheque for £350.

Newmill Open Gardens
2010
Newmill
gardens were again open in aid of ACE on Sunday 20th June.
It was a
beautiful sunny day and Newmill quickly filled up with visitors.
By the end
of the afternoon we had raised just over £3,300 for the
ACE funds.
|
|
|
Cream teas
were available in two of the gardens and there were lots of
interesting things for sale - plants, artworks, quilts, wooden
garden items, books and CDs.
|
|
|
We put on
an exhibition of quilts in The Jamieson Library at The Old Post
Office.
This
quilt was made and donated by ACE's Sponsorship Secretary, Janet
Pye, and was won in a competition by Edris Stratford.
|
|
|
| There
was also a display of sculpture by local sculptor, Andrea Garrihy
..... |
|
|
|
.....
and a small choir from Bolitho School performed in the garden
at The Mill House.

Coffee Morning
in Scarborough
Mrs V. Humphreys
has recently sent ACE a donation of £240 which she raised
by organising a coffee morning in Scarborough.
Mrs Humphreys
had previously contacted ACE because she wanted to sponsor a
young man, Denis Musasizi, who she had met during a trekking
holiday in Uganda. We have helped her to get him placed at Kisoro
Vision School.

Concert for ACE
Mounts Bay
Rotary Club organised a concert and donated the proceeds to
ACE. It took place on Saturday 8th May at Paul Church and raised
£200.
The performers
were Kate Cattran (soprano), Angela Thomas (alto), Rob Murdoch
(tenor) and Mike Preen (bass), with Nigel Wicken playing the
piano and organ.
|
|
For the first
time, ACE was awarded a place for a runner in the Virgin London
Marathon on Sunday 25th April 2010.
Our runner
was Polly Jacobs, who is a doctor and lives in Salisbury. She
is a niece of ACE trustee, Phil Budden.
Polly
is a keen runner who has run the London Marathon before. She is
seen here on the train to the start at Blackheath
with her brother, Julian, who also competed.
|
|
|
Polly was
proudly displaying her ACE running vest.
She reported
"My brother and I got the train up with family and then
I made my way to the red start and my brother to the blue start.
|
|
|
"Despite
the predictions of hot dry weather, the runners were heavily
rained upon in the starting area and unfortunately for me the
rain stopped my Garmin (stop watch/pacing device) from working
so sadly I had no means of pacing myself for the 26.2 miles
to come.
I was
in the 4th block back and after passing the red start and seeing
our support team for the first time, the first 3 miles were
spent doing a lot of side stepping around fellow runners before
I could really get into a steady pace.
|
|
|
"There
were so many highlights such as passing over Tower Bridge and
the incredible support of the crowds and seeing all the amazing
runners with "in memory of..." on the back of their shirts.
It is certainly a very emotional event to be a part of.
I think
the race is a bit like labour you forget how long and painful
it is, but the presence of my family at 5 key points along the
way really helped keep me going through the most painful miles.
|
|
|
|
Unfortunately
I did not quite get the time I hoped for and ran 12 minutes slower
than last year, but I did manage to "sprint" the last 500 metres
in order not to be beaten by a teletubby!!!
I crossed
the line in 4 hours 2 minutes and vowed I would hang up my marathon
boots....well for the immediate future anyway.
I have
been overwhelmed by everyone's generosity and have raised around
£1,700 for ACE so far."

|
An enthusiastic

Sponsored Walk
Raises £1,500
We entered
a team of walkers in Penzance Rotary Club's Sponsored Ramble
on Sunday 20th September 2009.
You can
read further details of the event by clicking here
75% of the
money we raised went to ACE and 25% to charities supported by
Penzance Rotary Club. These were Cornwall Hospice Care, Shelter
Box and The Stroke Association.
We originally
set ourselves a target of £600, but friends were so generous
that we raised it to £1,000 and then to £1,350.
|
|
|
|
We
had a team of three - ACE trustee, Phil Budden, and friends David
Gibbons and John Pring.
In
the end, we exceeded our target and raised just over £1,500.
We have passed on £382 to the Rotary Club.

Cream Tea

|
|
Angela
and Vic Peake hosted a cream tea, in aid of ACE, at their home,
Chynoey, Newmill, on Sunday 6th September 2009.
The
weather forecast was very poor with heavy rain being predicted.
However, it turned out better than expected and, although it was
cloudy, it kept dry.
|
 |
|
The event
was well attended. As well as tea, there were plants, cakes, books,
and wooden garden items for sale.
At the end
of the day the treasurer announced that £387 had been raised
for ACE funds.

Newmill
Open Gardens 2009
|
|
|
Visitors to
the fifth Newmill Open Gardens were greeted by the ACE's own very
special constable, Vic ' the Truncheon ' Peake.
ACE trustee,
Vic, manned the road junction for the whole afternoon and directed
traffic to the car parks.
We were fortunate
this year to have much more off-road car parking available so
traffic problems were kept to a minimum.
|
|
|
|
We
were blessed by a most beautiful sunny day. Rev Tim Hawkins had
been praying for us again!
A
constant stream of visitors came throughout the 6-hour opening period.
Many
cream teas were served and we also sold plants, wooden garden items,
cards, paintings and books.
There
was a stall manned by Serendipity
of St. Ives selling ethnic products, some of which were made in
the Ugandan villages where our schools are situated. They raised
£140 for ACE which will go back to the villages.
Takings
for the day reached almost £3,000 and more money has come
in since. Currently the total stands at £3,890. Some of this
is in the form of gift-aided donations, which will add on enough
to take us over £4,000.
|
|
|
|
The Jamieson
Library at The Old Post Office also presented an exhibition of
pottery and prints.
We featured
the work of potter, Debbie Prosser,
and prints by 8 members of Penwith
Printmakers .
The exhibition
was open each day until the following Saturday.

when the show closed at 5pm on Saturday 27th.

Dog Show
|
|
On Sunday 15th
March 2009 a Companion Dog Show with Pedigree and Novelty classes
took place at St. John's Hall, Penzance. It was organised by Goldsithney
Dog Training Club.
The winners
rosettes were sponsored by GMO Cars of Eastern Green, Penzance.
We are very grateful to them for their support.
|
|
 |
|
The
judging of the Pedigree classes took place during the morning and
the Novelty classes were held in the afternoon.
ACE
supporters provided refreshments and also ran a bookstall and a
tombola. There were plants for sale courtesy of Marazion Bypass
Nurseries.
By
the end of the day £350 had been raised for ACE funds.
|
These were
the three winners in the Pedigree section, proving, yet again,
that size doesn't matter.
We are very
grateful to the Goldsithney club for holding the event for ACE.
